How high can I climb?
Most people can place two feet between each step for a comfortable climb. This would mean 10 steps would get you 20 feet up. This is totally dependent on the agility and skill of the climber. The use of an aider is often used to gain height with less steps. Is the Steppladder legal on public land? The Steppladder is legal for use on public land because the rungs do not break the cambium layer of the tree. This is the layer in between the xylem and phloem tissues responsible for secondary growth of the roots and stems. What does that mean? The Steppladder does not cause any permanent damage to the tree. What if I can’t tie the knot? We call it a loop for a reason! Attachment is simple, but even simple solutions (like tying your shoes) take some practice. We have many resources available to help you: the Steppladder comes with attachment instructions, the loop is pictured on the carry bag, and we have videos on our YouTube channel that will definitely help! How long does it take to set them up? This is obviously dependent on the desired height and the number of steps you use. What might also come into play is the hardness of the tree bark. It might take a bit longer to find the perfect tension on softer trees. That being said, one step can be set in under 10 seconds with practice. What kind of trees can I use them on? The Steppladder works via cam action. It rotates downward, which generates a great amount of force. This allows the teeth of the standoffs to bite into any type of bark and maintain solid contact. |
What diameter/ circumference tree can I use them on?
The Steppladder comes with 6 ft. ropes which accommodate: Diameter= 1.75 ft | 0.54 m | Circumference= 5.5 ft | 1.7 m | For longer ropes see our BYO STEPPLADDER, BASE SET, or LARGE BASE KIT products. What is the weight rating? Our polypropylene rope has a tensile strength rating for 2800 pounds. We intentionally use steel for its strength and ability to bend long before it breaks. How long do the ropes last? The rope was designed to be both strong and durable. The lifetime of the rope depends largely on the use of the Steppladder. Were you putting them up and taking them down every day? Did you leave the set up all season? The ropes have the potential to last a decade, but we recommend checking the integrity of the rope every season. We offer replacement ropes in our store that can be purchased and easily attached to your Steppladder if necessary. Can I use the steps as a saddle platform? Yes, and we do! The Steppladder can withstand side pressure with ease. This makes it both safe for climbing and a versatile saddle hunting platform. We like to place 3 or 4 steps in a level circle around the tree. This provides stability under foot and unlimited shot opportunities |
